GARDEN DESIGN
Combining my years of gardening experience with my knowledge of what makes a garden psychologically beneficial, I aim to create spaces which both relax and excite, which suit the needs and personalities of those who use them, and above all, promote happiness.
A Chalk Grassland Habitat
Marina Christopher, the wonderful plantswoman who owns Phoenix Perennial Plants, had always dreamed of having a chalk garden, in which she could observe the wildlife that colonise such a habitat. I created a design for her that recaptured the essence of our native chalk grassland, designed to attract the rare Chalkhill Blue and Small Blue butterflies. Influenced by the work of sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy, the garden also incorporates a dry stone wall as a habitat for lizards, and has a pond and more ornamental planting area for Marina to relax and reflect in.
Mottisfont Abbey
This is a radical yet sympathetic design for the Old Frameyard at Mottisfont, using the water within its grounds as inspiration for a curved, flowing design, with a tropical orchard in a modern fruit frame at its heart.
A Scandanavian Oasis in Fulham, London
The owners of this small garden in Fulham wanted a clean, modern space which would reflect the style of their home, where they could relax and entertain guests. Inspired by the work of Ulf Nordfjell, the clients were delighted with the Scandanavian garden that we created, and provided the kind testimonial above.
CAD Work
Design and presentation is key in my work and I feel that Computer Aided Design (CAD)
can offer a great deal in helping a client to visualise their garden. I like to combine
hand-
I also offer my services in CAD to other design practices.
“Emma worked for my partner and me on our small town garden. She won our confidence quickly by showing us mood boards that demonstrated that she understood exactly what we wanted. She then produced a design that is very original, exciting, and well beyond our creative capabilities.
We are now enjoying the first good weather (March 12) since the build finished last winter. The garden is a great success, it is usually visitors' favourite bit of the house by far, and we are still finding views within the garden that we hadn't anticipated but that make us glad that we worked with a professional.
Emma has strong vision, great talent, and a gentle manner that makes her a pleasure
to work with and we recommend her highly.” -

My Services
MY SERVICES
I offer a range of design and gardening services, depending on your requirements.
If you want your garden redesigning, no matter how small or challenging, then I can organise a survey of your garden and draw up a design for the space, including specifications for the planting and hard landscaping. I can also recommend trusted contractors to create the new garden for you.
If you are happy with your garden layout, but feel the planting need a bit of sprucing up, then I can plan out a new area of planting, according to your preferences, source the plants, and create the new beds.
I also provide a ‘Garden SOS’ service, helping to tidy up your garden in preparation for a big event, and I am happy to consider garden maintenance local to the Guildford area.
If you would like to know more about the services I offer, then I am happy to talk these through with you; please feel free to email me.
